Charlie Ugyuk (1931 - 1998)

Charlie Ugyuk lived in Taloyoak, Northwest Territories.

Charlie’s brother is the well-known Gjoa Haven sculptor Judas Ullulaq. Another one of his brothers Nelson Takkiruq also carves in Gjoa Haven.

Charlie Ugyuk had an incredible talent, and created among others a carving about alcohol abuse and another one about the dangers of forced Christianity. Another sculpture is of a shaman transforming into a caribou.

His sculpture "Devil After Birth Holding Young Devil", 1983-85, was featured on the cover of Inuit Art Quarterly, Spring 1993.
